Man dies after falling off back of truck and getting run over
A man died last week after falling off the back of a truck in North Augusta.
According to a news release from authorities, just after 4 p.m. Friday, August 16, a 2004 Chevy pickup was traveling east on the 6000 block of Northside Drive towing a trailer, the victim, identified as 42-year-old Abel Lopez Cruz of Augusta, was riding on the back of the truck picking up traffic cones, when he fell off and was ran over by a trailer the truck was pulling.
The victim was transported to an area hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced dead at 5:07 p.m.
The Coroner’s Office along with South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation.
