Woman fatally hit by truck while checking on her vehicle on I-85 South in Cabarrus County
A Winston-Salem woman was struck and killed by a truck early Friday morning on I-85 South while checking on her vehicles, troopers said.
According to NC State Highway Patrol, the deadly incident occurred around 4:55 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, on I-85 South just south of Lane Street in Cabarrus County.
Troopers said a 2014 Kia Optima was stopped in the far-left lane on I-85 after having some car trouble. The driver of the Kia, identified as Arlexia Taylor, 27, of Winston-Salem, got out of her vehicle to check on it. That’s when Taylor was struck in the road by a 2017 Chevrolet truck, Highway Patrol said. Taylor was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck was transported to Atrium Northeast Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Troopers said speed and alcohol were not factors in this deadly collision.
Interstate 85 South was shut down for about two hours on Friday morning.
